Mr. Leverock's Civics class discusses the foundations of our country and how we formed into society today. We examine the American Revolution, Declaration of Independence, and US Constitution and break them down piece by piece. We will understand why each Amendment was put into place, why the Declaration of Independence and US Constitution were written, and and how it affects our society today. Students need to be in class to learn the content.

We interpreted and analyzed Amendments 5-10 of the Bill of Rights. Students may get notes from another student in class as would be expected at a college level. Students who missed notes may come to office hours on Wednesday after school and I will provide them with notes needed.

We discussed and summarized Amendments 13, 14, 15, 18, 19, 21 and 26 of the US Constitution. Students handed there completed notes in for a grade.

We discussed current propositions and amendments currently on the 2014 Colorado Ballet. I brought my ballot in and passed it around for students to look at. We watched debate clips, political ads, examined websites, and summarized the wording on the ballot. We also looked at top financial contributors of each issue. Ballotpedia was another source we examined as a class together that has good information and both sides of the issue. The students were then allowed to vote and I marked my ballot according to the majority vote.

The students will look at different candidates running in the current elections. We will have a 5-10 minute discussion on what you can do if you don't like what someone in office is doing. Students will then fill out a T-chart on what they know about each candidate based on what they have seen. We will discuss the word bias and show how it relates to political ads. We will then look at several political ads on youtube and break down fact and fiction in each as by looking at independent studies of each source. We will then end with the idea of media bias and think about whether the news can be bias.

We will resume our discussion of media bias and look at Conservative and Liberal Television stations. We will then examine biased news articles and news clips and look for their bias by the way they report the news. We will then have a discussion and rank the importance of each of the issues acording to the students. Students will be given a brief summary and breakdown of each issue and will write a paragraph about how they feel about the issue and why they feel that way. Students will then make their own propaganda signs for each issue.
